Summer camp. If you are interested in having your child attend camp this summer at Camp Vick or Pathfinder Lodge, we have received a packet of information that is available in the church office.

The Community Missions of Niagara Frontier 13th annual Par Fore a Mission Golf classic will take place on Wednesday June 18th starting at 1:00 pm at the Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Course, 4560 Creek Road, Lewiston. Pre-school registration. Salem United Church of Christ, 114 Morgan St., Tonawanda is now accepting registration for pre-school. For more information call 692-3429.

 

Food pantry donations needed. The Brighton Food Pantry has lost its grant for paper products, so we need donations of household and personal products that our clients can’t purchase with food stamps. Products most needed include toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, shampoo, deodorant, laundry detergent, and fabric softener.

 

Chicken BBQ & Theme Basket Raffle. Rachel Circle is sponsoring a Chicken BBQ and Theme Basket Raffle on Saturday May 31st from 4:00-7:00 pm. Donations for the theme basket raffle can be dropped off at church the week before the dinner. Talk to any member of Rachel Circle if you have any questions. Dinner tickets are $9; eat in or take-out.

Rachel Circle will be sponsoring a Rummage Sale on Friday June 27th  from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm ($1 admission) and Saturday June 28th for a bag sale only from 10:00 am -12:00pm ($2/bag) Donations for the sale can be dropped off in the community room beginning on Sunday June 22nd.

 

Chapel Chimes. The June/July/August issue of the Chapel Chimes will be available in the narthex today.

 

Kites for Vets. Come fly a kite to support homeless veterans. The Vietnam Veterans of America #77 is sponsoring Kites for Vets on Saturday May 31st from 12:00-4:00 pm at Gratwick Waterfront Park in North Tonawanda. Food and refreshments will be available. Information about senior services. A representative from Erie County Senior Services will at the Brighton Food Pantry on Saturday May 24th from 9:00-11:00 am with information about keeping senior citizens in their own homes, rather than going into a nursing home. All members who want information are invited to come.

 

A Fond Farewell

Dear Brighton Community Church Members,

 I have enjoyed working in the office at Brighton Community Church for the past three years. I have met some wonderful people during this time. Unfortunately, family commitments and other circumstances make it necessary for me to leave my position here. My last day will be Friday May 16th. I wish you all the best. Christine Smyczynski.

Light fixtures. To date we have exceeded our goal and raised $1,863.61 towards the new light fixtures. Thank you for your generous donations. We are still accepting donations if you still wish to contribute towards future electric bills and bulb replacements.

Brighton Place Library will be hosting “Cooks for Books” a fund raising event on Thursday May 8th at 6:00 pm at Banchetti by Rizzo, 550 North French Road, Amherst. Tickets are $50/person. There will be an open bar and food prepared by celebrity chefs, including Mike Andrzejewski from Seabar, Mike A’s and Torches, J.J. Richart from Torches, and chefs from Rizzo family restaurants: Banchetti, Rizotto, Schnitzels, and Vito e Vino. There will also be wine tasting by Southern Wine & Spirits, live music, and silent and live auction items. Tickets can be purchased online at www.brightonplacelibrary.org, by phone 332-4375 or in person at the library located at 999 Brighton Road.

Buy a light fixture. You can help our church save an estimated $58 per month on our electric bill by buying a light fixture for the building. National Grid has a program where they will pay 58% of the cost of replacing our old light fixtures with new energy-efficient ones. The total cost will be $5,025, with National Grid paying $2,906 and the church paying $2,118. However, National Grid will give an additional 15% discount to us if we pay a lump sum payment of $1,800. The cost of each fixture, which includes new T-8 energy-efficient light bulbs, would be $32 each. Help the church by buying one or more fixtures by May 1st. For more information, see Bob Zeeb. To date we have raised $1623.61 towards the light fixtures. We only need $176.39 more to reach our goal, please consider making a donation today.

Theme Basket Party. First United Methodist Church, 65 Main Street, North Tonawanda, will be holding their annual theme basket party on Saturday May 3rd. Doors open at 2:00 pm; drawing starts at 3:30 pm. Proceeds will go to their Christian Education Department.

Community Missions Sunday Cabaret. Come for dinner in the community soup kitchen and a craft night at the cabaret tonight, Sunday April 27th; dinner at 5:00 pm, program at 6:00 pm. ABW Convention. American Baptist Women’s Ministries convention will take place on April 25th -27th at the Desmond Hotel & Conference Center in Albany. The theme of the convention is A Time to Serve. Registration forms are in the church office.

 

Journeying with the dying and the bereaved. Roswell Park Cancer Institute is offering an eight-week course on ministry to the dying and bereaved on Monday evenings from 6:00-7:30 pm beginning  April 28th. The cost is $60. For more information call 845-8051.

 

Easter Flower orders. If you wish to order flowers for Easter, fill out the insert in today’s bulletin and place in the collection basket with your payment. The cost is $7 each for lilies, tulips or hyacinths.  All orders and payments must be turned in today.

Cub Scout Fundraiser. Cub Pack 286, which meets at Brighton, will be having a fundraiser At Denny’s, 3920 Maple Road on Wednesday April 16th from 4:00-10:00 pm. A portion of the proceeds will go to help with summer camp expenses.
